§ 16-18. Definitions.

  • For the purposes of this article, the following terms, phrases, words and their derivations shall have the meaning given herein. When not inconsistent with the context, words used in the present tense include the future, words in the plural number include the singular number and words in the singular number include the plural number. The word "shall" is always mandatory and not merely directory.

    (a)

    City is the City of South Houston.

    (b)

    Building official is the license officer or permit officer of the City of South Houston.

    (c)

    Transient amusement is any circus, carnival, concession, game, ride, exhibit or any other type of public amusement device which is of a type generally considered to be of a transient nature, but shall not include such amusements operated by a school or a church and all of the persons engaged in the operation and control are members of the school or church organization which is operating such amusement.

    (d)

    Licensee is any person having a city license in full force and effect issued hereunder for a transient amusement.

    (e)

    Person is any person, firm, partnership, association, corporation, company or organization of any kind.
