§ 8-131. Who may apply for electrical permits.

  • (a)

    Only those hereinafter specified shall have the privilege to apply for electrical work, electrical maintenance work, or electrical sign contractor work permits.

    (b)

    The master electrician, or their duly authorized agent, licensed by the City of South Houston, who is engaged in electrical contracting by himself, shall apply for only electrical permits for their own business, and no electrical permit shall be obtained by any master electrician who does not supervise, direct and control the electrical work for which the permit was obtained.

    (c)

    The master electrician, or their duly authorized agent, licensed by the City of South Houston, who is employed by a person, firm or corporation as a master electrician, shall take out permits only for their employer, and shall supervise, direct and control the electrical work for which that permit was obtained.

    (d)

    The electrical sign contractor, or their duly authorized agent, licensed by the City of South Houston, shall obtain permits for electrical signs only and shall also comply with subsections 8-131(b) and (c).

    (e)

    The maintenance electrician who is employed by a person, firm or corporation shall take out maintenance work permits only for their employer, and shall perform or supervise, direct and control the electrical maintenance work for which the permit was obtained.

    (f)

    A homeowner may apply for a permit for electrical work in and/or on their residence when the electrical work is to be performed by himself (see section 8-62.)
